Delphi is a magnificent site, with its impressive archeological finds such as the superb Temple of Apollo, a well preserved theater and stadium as well as an archeological museum all nestled in the beautiful green hills surrounding it. It is a perfect day trip excursion and you combine it with a stop at the neighboring traditional village of Arachova, a famous ski resort in the winter, and/or a stop at the pretty town of Livadia, with its small houses, and stone bridges over the river. If you’re the active type, you can hike on one of several trails on mount Parnassos (more details here). Another interesting option is to go down after the visit of Delphi to the historic town of Galaxidi, and then continue to Nafpaktosand its castle, take the new spectacular bridge Rio/Antirio bridge (the worlds’ longest cable stayed bridge) and head back to Athens through the highway Patra-Athens.
Yet another possibility is to combine Delphi with Meteora for a two-day trip. Don’t forget to get your Kosher lunch boxes or catered meals from Gostijo for a perfect hassle free experience!
